| A Bit of Fast Video for your Holiday enjoyment... |
This time, the scene
is 1997 Rolex 24 early practice, and we see cars coming

It may have rained a record amount at Le Mans in 2001, but
the first night of practice the evening light was beautiful,
and I had just discovered the ultra-fast Porsche Curves...

1996 IMSA Daytona Finale, where we see the
start of a pre-race practice from Pit Out. I think Wayne
Taylor only had to do a handful of laps in the race to take
the '96 title. This turned out to be a terrific (and heart-breaking
for some) race, though it rained heavily.

Feature Video - Lola B98/10 Dyson Test at Road Atlanta

Lola's then-new customer LMP, the B98/10, made it's debut on display
in the paddock at 1998's Premiere Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta. The Monday
following the race Dyson Racing tested the new car, which had been fitted
with a Lozano Ford V8 for the test. Intersport Racing ended up buying
that first B98 chassis, but Dyson put it through its paces that Monday,
driven primarily by James Weaver. Dyson was also testing a new Goodyear
tire on larger rear wheels on the team's trusty R&S, and Butch Leitzinger
was doing much of that driving. For a time in the late morning the two
were on track at the same time, and I stood at the outside end of the
driveover bridge watching the two of them circulating, and shot this bit
of video. They were clearly both having fun...
What you will see is three laps, as the two cars come into the Turn 10-11
complex from the back straight and head under the bridge. On the first
lap Leitzinger leads in the R&S, with Weaver close behind in the Lola.
The second lap, Weaver passes Leitzinger going into 10, and the two cars
head off under the bridge and down the hill through 12 and onto the front
straight in what looks (and feels!) like a rollercoaster ride. I love
the way Leitzinger slides through 11 in hot pursuit, and the doppler of
the two cars' engine notes as they go under the bridge, down through 12
and rocket away toward 1 (I've seen it fifty times, and
I still can't help grinning as they head off into the trees on that lap...).
The third lap, Leitzinger has dropped back, and you just see him in the
distance as Weaver comes to the bridge well in front. Road Atlanta always
a great opportunity to dramatize what so many of us love so much about
road racing...
No mpeg file included on this one, as it's huge (52mb).
Too huge actually, as this was one of the first video grabs I did, and
I selected too large of a screen size. So in this video you get a great
perspective of the Road Atlanta track at a large screen size, but video
that's a bit compressed-looking, though the motion is smooth and the sound
is excellent. Some day I'll record it again with better settings, but
I think you'll enjoy it just as-is... So turn the sound WAY up...and enjoy
the ride... (52 seconds)
